Mastering Mathematics in the Primary Classroom.
What do we understand by mathematics mastery? How can we teach the subject with mastery as our goal? This course looks to answer these questions and to set teachers up and armed with a clear vision of how to plan for mastery at all stages.

Assessing Mathematics in the Primary National Curriculum.
How best to assess now that levels have disappeared? Assessment should be guiding our planning and this course shows how this can be achievable within the framework of yearly expectations.

Planning for reasoning, problem solving and fluency in the Primary National Curriculum.
We will look at why the product of two simple proper fractions is found through multiplication of both numerators and both denominators. Why does this always work? Planning for reasoning and problem solving can result in making this and other simple (fluent) routines become visual and consequently more understandable. This course raises the profile of conceptual understanding through mathematical reasoning and problem solving.

Planning for reasoning, problem solving and fluency from KS3 to GCSE.
Why does Pythagoras' theorem always work for any right angle triangle? Why is the sum of the angles inside any triangle equal to the sum of two right angles? How can we use the inverse process of expanding quadratic brackets to factorise a quadratic expression without the need for trial and improvement? These are just some of the topics in this course that aims to achieve conceptual understanding in all of our mathematics teaching and learning.

KS2 Mathematics: How to embed reasoning and problem solving into every lesson.

This course is aimed at primary school teachers, NQTs, headteachers, support staff and governors. We look at a selection of national curriculum statutory requirements and through practical activities understand how mathematical reasoning strengthens problem solving abilities and leads to greater mathematical fluency. This course is held at Heath House in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

Heath House Conference Centre, Cheadle Rd, Uttoxeter, Staffs, ST14 7BY.

Mental Mathematics at KS2

The curriculum may have changed, the requirement to sit a mental mathematics paper at the end of year 6 has been scrapped but mental mathematics is still a necessary part of primary mathematics. This course invites staff to look at the teaching of this lifelong skill through practical, concrete methods leading to a fluent approach to mental problem solving even with fractions! This course is held at Heath House in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire
Heath House Conference Centre, Cheadle Rd, Uttoxeter, Staffs, ST14 7BY.

Mathematics: How to assess for mastery at Primary.

This course is aimed at primary school teachers, NQTs, headteachers, support staff and governors. We look at a selection of national curriculum statutory requirements and through practical activities and free resources available to all schools we will begin to see how mastery can be achieved at all stages along the curriculum path. We will link mastery to the three prongs of assessment required in the national curriculum for mathematics. This course is held at Heath House in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

Heath House Conference Centre, Cheadle Rd, Uttoxeter, Staffs, ST14 7BY.

Secondary SKE (Algebra)

The Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses are proving very popular with colleagues who are new to teaching or who are not subject specialists but have a mathematics timetable.

This course looks at the topic of algebra as required of the national curriculum at KS3 but with KS4 content too. We will cover how the mastery approach to learning can be successfully achieved through a concrete to abstract system of layered learning, making links to, and reinforcing areas previously learnt.
This is a whole day course at the Langstone Hotel situated just over the bridge off the Havant exit on the A27. The price per delegate is £105 (discount available for more than one delegate) and includes cooked lunch and refreshments.

Secondary SKE (Geometry)

The Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses are designed for colleagues who are new to teaching or who are not subject specialists but have a mathematics timetable.

This course looks at the topic of geometry as required for the national curriculum at KS3 but with KS4 content too. We will cover how the mastery approach to learning can be successfully achieved through a concrete to abstract system of layered learning, making links to, and reinforcing areas previously learnt. We will look at Pythagoras, areas of polygons and trigonometry in detail with practical ideas on how to teach the subjects from mathematical reasoning and problem solving perspectives and how this approach leads to a fluency of application for students.
